Shaping the SELF Toolbox: Partners Meet in Copenhagen

The SELF project first came together in February 2025 at Sportways Amsterdam, right next to the hockey fields of top clubs Pinoké and AHBC.
Those two days were full of energy and curiosity – we revisited the basics of self-regulation, tried out a first exercise, and discussed how the future toolbox could look and work.
It was a great start to the SELF journey, with lots of ideas, laughter, and team spirit that carried on into the next meeting.

Two Days of Collaboration in Copenhagen

On 22–23 September 2025, the partners met again – this time in Copenhagen, at the welcoming Falcon Club.
We were greeted by Pernille Clemen Otbo and Kostka Parlade Galindez, who made us feel at home and introduced us to the club’s facilities and community.
One of the highlights was a basketball session led by Kostka, which brought a burst of energy and reminded us what the project is all about: learning and self-regulation through movement and play.

Designing the Future Website for Coaches

Much of our time in Copenhagen was spent shaping the structure of the upcoming SELF website for coaches.
Together, we explored questions such as:

  • How should the different sections be named and organised?
  • Should coaches register to access the tools, for example via email?
  • And how can we make sure the exercises – now officially called “tools” – are practical, easy to find, and simple to use?

These discussions helped us imagine what the digital version of the toolbox could become – not just a collection of exercises, but a place where coaches can find inspiration and guidance.

Trying, Sharing, and Learning Together

The rest of the meeting was all about sharing experiences.
Each partner presented or tested an exercise, giving everyone a chance to take part, reflect, and provide feedback.
It was both fun and insightful – and once again showed how valuable it is to mix practical experience with open discussion.

One of the key outcomes was the selection of coaches who will pilot the tools in real training environments.
This marks a big step toward turning our ideas into something that can be used by coaches and athletes in everyday practice.

What Comes Next

Over the next few months, we’ll work together on developing a new set of self-regulation tools.
These will be tested during autumn 2025 with youth basketball and hockey teams in Austria, Georgia, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.
The next partner meeting in Georgia will bring us another step closer to completing a comprehensive and practical toolbox for coaches – built on collaboration, experience, and shared passion for sport.
