SELF Erasmus+ project concludes with a final meeting and dissemination seminar in Prague

Two years of collaboration, learning and practical experience came together in Prague on 28–29 September 2026, as the SELF Erasmus+ project entered its final stage.

The two-day in-person meeting brought the project partners together to finalise the outputs developed over the past two years, review the project’s achievements and look ahead to how the results can continue to make a difference.

A key focus was the SELF-Regulation Toolkit, the main practical outcome of the project. Partners worked on finalising the materials and discussed how to share the toolkit with coaches and other people working with children and young people in sport. The aim is to make the toolkit accessible and useful beyond the project itself, helping coaches create learning environments in which players can develop not only their sporting skills but also their ability to understand, manage and reflect on their own behaviour.

The meeting also included an evaluation of the project and work on an insight and legacy plan. This plan, which will be further developed by the end of 2026, will help ensure that the knowledge, experience and tools created through SELF continue to be used in the years ahead.

Sharing the toolkit with coaches at SK Slavia Prague and the EuroHockey Development and Coach Committees

The project meeting was combined with a dissemination seminar at hockey club SK Slavia Prague, providing an opportunity to share the project’s results and practical experiences with a wider audience.

During the seminar, Marjolein Torenbeek and Kostka Parlade presented the SELF-Regulation Toolkit and shared their experiences of working with self-regulation in sport. The session offered an opportunity to explore how the toolkit can support coaches in their daily practice and how self-regulation can become a natural part of coaching and training.

Rather than focusing solely on performance, self-regulation encourages coaches and players to reflect on goals, monitor progress, learn from experience and take greater responsibility for their own development. These skills can support young people both on and off the pitch.

In the week after the meeting the SELF project was shared with members of the EuroHockey Development and Coach Committees which took place in Brussels.

Looking beyond the project

Over the past two years, the SELF Erasmus+ project has brought together partners and practitioners who share a common interest in making coaching more meaningful and supporting the development of young athletes. The toolkit reflects the contributions, experiences and feedback gathered throughout the project, including input from the coaches and players who helped pilot the materials.

As the project comes to an end, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey: our project partners, the people who contributed their knowledge and ideas, and, in particular, the coaches and participants who tested the toolkit and shared their honest feedback. Your involvement has helped shape the project and make its outcomes more relevant to the realities of everyday sport.

We hope that SELF has contributed to a more thoughtful and meaningful approach to coaching and training, one that supports the development of both players and coaches. Because sport is about more than learning techniques, winning matches or achieving results. It is also about learning how to learn, taking responsibility, building confidence and growing together.

Although the project meetings are coming to an end, the work does not stop here. We look forward to seeing the SELF-Regulation Toolkit being used, shared and developed further by coaches and sporting organisations.
